Take Notes
Watch the full walkthrough video below for a complete overview of Take Notes in CueDB.
Logging Take Notes
To log take notes, click the NOTES button for a start. The Take Notes panel will open.

Take Numbering
Choose how takes should increment:
-
Start
Takes begin at 1 and increment within the current start only.
-
Session
Takes begin at 1 for the first take of the session and increment across all starts in that session.
-
Recording Project
Takes increment across all starts in all sessions.

Auto-fill Pass from Tags
When enabled, CueDB uses the instrumentation tags assigned to your start to populate the Pass field for your first take.
- You can turn this off at any time
- You can modify the value freely
- The value you enter will carry over to the next take

Cue-Based Note Fields
Each take includes three note fields:
- Orchestration
- Recording
- Mixing
These are cue-based, meaning:
- They are shared across all starts for the same cue
- They can be accessed from the Cue Overview via their respective columns
Optional Fields and View Settings
You can toggle certain fields on or off to simplify the interface:
- Pre-take notes
- Pass field
This is useful if you prefer a more minimal workflow.

Filtering While Recording
-
Top Rated Takes
Filter to show only takes marked with 5 stars

Take Flags
Each take includes quick checkboxes for:
- Interrupted
- Stage Noise
- Overdub
These help you log common conditions quickly without typing.

Creating Takes
You can create a new take in three ways:
- Click New Take
- Press Ctrl + N
- Start typing directly
Once you enter any value:

To switch this behavior, enable User Timezone in the Recording Project Options menu.

Completing a Take
- Add optional bar numbers and take notes
- Set a rating
Then choose how to continue:
-
New Take with Same Bars or Ctrl + B
Continue working on the same section
-
New Take or Ctrl + N
Start a new take with an empty Bars field

Deleting Takes
Click the trash icon on a take to delete it.
